Agent-to-Wallet Protocol for Digital Credentials A2WP

Agent-to-Wallet Protocol for Digital Credentials (A2WP) is an agentic-web standard (endpoint) at step 8, Present, governed by Individual Internet-Draft submitted to the IETF Network Working Group; its own status is "Internet-Draft, Intended Status: Standards Track; expires 20 April 2027; work in progress" (draft). It answers: How can an AI agent hand a credential offer or presentation request to a wallet unchanged, so that credentials and keys never reach the agent, and still resume its task from the outcome and continuation? Adoption is unmeasured, last verified 2026-10-19.

Present A2WP is an individual IETF Internet-Draft (Standards Track intended) that defines messages and calls between an AI Agent and a Wallet. The Agent submits a credential offer or presentation request exactly as received. The Wallet decides whether to act, involves the Principal when needed, and runs OpenID4VCI or OpenID4VP with the Issuer or Verifier. The Agent polls the operation status and receives any continuation, while keys and credentials stay in the Wallet. Transport bindings, wallet policy, and credential formats are out of scope.
