MCP Server Cards (SEP-2127) is an agentic-web standard (document format) at step 1, Discover, governed by Model Context Protocol project (SEP process, MCP governance); its own status is "SEP-2127 Final (2026-10-06); the MCP Registry working group page still describes Server Cards as experimental" (candidate). It answers: How can a client learn what an MCP server offers before connecting to it? Adoption is unmeasured, last verified 2026-10-19.

[Discover](/category/discover/) An MCP Server Card is a static JSON description of an MCP server that a client can fetch before connecting. It is specified in SEP-2127, which reached Final on 2026-10-06 [[1]](#ref-1).

## Overview
The MCP Registry working group is aligning the registry's server.json schema with the Server Card [[2]](#ref-2). The mcp record on this site records the card path as {endpoint}/server-card; the final SEP text should be checked for the exact location before that path is relied on.

The working group page still calls Server Cards experimental, while the SEP is marked Final, so the status here is candidate until the specification release that includes it.
