CoMP (Content Monetization Protocols) is an agentic-web standard (endpoint) at step 3, Permit, governed by IAB Tech Lab; its own status is "CoMP v1 (Final): open for public comment until 2026-04-09 and finalized 2026-04-28, per IAB Tech Lab's initiative page" (stable). It answers: How does a licensed AI system ask a publisher or content marketplace for content, saying who it is, how it authenticates and what it will use the content for? Adoption is unmeasured, last verified 2026-10-20.

[Permit](/category/permit/) CoMP is IAB Tech Lab's final v1 API specification for licensed content supply to AI systems [[1]](#ref-1). The document itself is titled "Content Metadata Marketplace Supply Specification (MVP)" [[2]](#ref-2). An AI system sends a request saying who it is and how it authenticates (the listed methods include Web Bot Auth). It also states what it will use the content for, from a fixed list of functions [[2]](#ref-2). The publisher or marketplace answers with a Package: the content scope, a licenseurl for terms, a reporturl for usage reporting, how to retrieve the content, and delivery formats that include MCP and NLWeb [[2]](#ref-2).

## Overview
It sits under Permit, next to RSL, because it is about access and licence terms between AI systems and publishers. It does not settle payment itself. How an AI system finds suppliers is explicitly out of scope [[2]](#ref-2).

V1 closed public comment on 2026-04-09 and was finalized on 2026-04-28 [[1]](#ref-1). The spec is CC-BY 3.0. IAB Tech Lab runs a related AI Bot Management Guidance, which was in public comment until 2026-06-25; its later status is not known [[1]](#ref-1). No implementations have been counted.

## Discovery and probe

none defined; supply discovery is explicitly out of scope, and terms are reached through a licenseurl in the response

```
GET none — the spec defines request and response objects, not a fixed endpoint path
parse:     No fixed path to parse.
on absent: Not probeable from an origin.
```

Not probed live: no-fixed-path. CoMP defines request and response objects, not a fixed path; supply discovery is out of scope.
